Action Plan, Policies and Regulation

At England Netball our purpose is clear, to lead a movement on and beyond the court. To uphold an unapologetic focus on women and girls whilst opening the game for new audiences to belong, flourish and soar. On this page you can find out more about:
- The work we’re doing to tackle inequalities as part of our Dedicated to Difference Action Plan.
- England Netball’s Diversity and Belonging Policy
- The Equality Act 2010, including supporting disabled people with reasonable adjustments.

Our Dedicated to Difference Action Plan (DIAP) sets out our ambitions and actions that we will take to continue to make netball more inclusive. It is split into 6 clear ambitions, aligned with our People Plan. These are summarised as follows.

This policy sets out England Netball’s commitment to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and not subject to unlawful or unfair discrimination. It includes the legal requirements that we follow and the roles and responsibilities of the various stakeholders involved.

England Netball is fully committed to our obligations under the Equality Act 2010, further details can be found in the Diversity and Belonging Policy.

These obligations include the right to reasonable adjustments for disabled people. A reasonable adjustment is a change or adaption that has the effect of removing or minimising the impact of an individuals’ impairment as a result of the structures we have created. Doing so enables disabled people to participate as fully as their non-disabled peers.

England Netball are accountable for deciding what adjustments are considered ‘reasonable’. This will be determined based upon the following factors:
- Effectiveness - Does the requested adjustment remove of minimise the disadvantage?
- Health and Safety - Does the requested adjustment impact the health or safety of the individual, deliverers or any other stakeholder involved?
- Cost - Is there a disproportionate cost involved?
- Organisational Size/ Resource - Who is being asked for the adjustment? We must take into account the size of the organisation involved e.g. England Netball as a national governing body in comparison to a small, grassroots club.

All decisions will be communicated in writing with the individual, either accepting the adjustment(s) in full or providing an alternative solution for discussion.

We recognise that our Regions, Counties and Clubs hold the same legal obligations and recommend that requests are considered using the factors above.

We recognise that lower levels of confidence combined with wanting to do the right thing can often lead to challenges arising around the themes of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging. As a national governing body, we are here to support all of our members and the wider netball family.
